"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me, to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”  - Luke 4:18-19

True Christianity acknowledges the Holy Spirit as part of the Godhead. He is co-equal and co-existed with God the Father and God the Son. He possesses the same nature, attributes, and characters.

Christians understand that the role of the Holy Spirit in their lives is very important. Without the Spirit, they will never experience the life that God has called them to live. They are powerless and can’t do anything.

“The Holy Spirit, a cornerstone of Christian faith, represents the presence and power of God within us. He is a source of guidance, comfort, and strength, empowering believers to live according to God’s will.” - ANONYMOUS

There are three major tasks given by the Holy Spirit to the believers:

  1. The Holy Spirit Calls the Believers to Be Christ’s Witnesses.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - Acts 1:8

  1. The Holy Spirit Causes the Believers to Point Broken People to Jesus.

1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. - Acts 3:1-8

  1. The Holy Spirit Charges the Believers to Proclaim Freedom to The Captives.

34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. 39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” - Acts 10: 34-43

The Holy Spirit gives the believers the boldness to proclaim freedom to those who have been captive by sin. They have been called and charged by the Spirit of God to set sinners free. He caused them to point broken people to Jesus. Believers will not be able to accomplish the tasks given by God without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. It is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit that makes every follower of Jesus Christ to be his witnesses in the world.

“Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without wind. We are useless.” - Charles Spurgeon
